When trying to achieve success it is important to distinguish between the goals you seek to achieve and the systems in place that will bring you there. The only way to actually win is to get better each day. If you do this, “the score takes care of itself.”
Being More Effective
The core idea of the book is that many people mistakenly think success comes from one big defining moment, when in fact it is the tiniest things, compounded over time, that bring true sustainable results in the long run.
The way I approach the problem of multiple priorities is by focusing on just one main metric: my energy. I make choices that maximize my personal energy because that makes it easier to manage all of the other priorities.
One aspect of life that always struck me as fascinating is the fact that we are born with no “operating manual.” Imagine if you bought IKEA furniture and there was no manual showing you how to assemble it…that would be a challenge wouldn’t it? Or at least it would make your life at that point unnecessarily difficult. Yet human life on earth is vastly more complicated, and here we are without any operating manual.
Having a messy workspace can have adverse effects on productivity. Some of us seem naturally tidy while others could not get organized to save their lives. 😀 Like many things in life though, if you search hard enough you will find a book with best practices and principles to help make your life easier. 📖
Never before have humans been inundated with so much information mixed with misinformation. With so much you could do and so many choices, ironically the problem of the modern world is not so much one of scarcity than one of abundance
